Types of Game Modes in Brawl Stars

Brawl Stars provides over 15 exciting game modes each with unique goals and challenges that make the gameplay charming. These modes can be classified into different types including:

  • Trophy Game Modes
  • Ranked Mode
  • Special PvE and PvP Events

Trophy Game Modes

Trophy game modes allow players to earn trophies helping them progress through the trophy road and reach higher leagues. Each brawler has its trophy number and your overall league ranking is based on the total trophies earned over all your brawlers. When using a new brawler you will be matched against players with similar trophy levels for balanced competition. Below are the trophy game modes:

Gem Grab

This model features a gem mine at the center of the battlefield which spawns gems at regular intervals. Two teams of three players compete to collect and hold the most gems. If a player is excluded they fall all their collected gems. Once a team secures 10 or more gems a countdown starts and they must protect their gems until the timer extents zero to win the match.

Knockout

This is a best-of-three elimination mode where beaten players do not back during the round. After halftime poison blurs slowly shrink the field of battle from all sides. A team must remove all three rivals. The first team to secure two rounds seem winning in the match.

Bounty

A combat-focused mode where the goal is to collect as many stars as possible by taking down opponents. Each time a player removes an enemy their bounty increases by one star up to a maximum of seven. Overcoming a high-bounty opponent grants extra stars. At the start of the match a blue playoff star appears in the center. If both teams have the same number of stars at the end the team keeping the blue star wins.

Heist

Each team has a secure vault that they must defend while attempting to destroy the opponent’s safe. The team that completely breaks the enemy’s safe first wins. If time runs out victory goes to the team that has dealt the most damage.

Hot Zone

This mode features one to three designated control zones marked as red circles, depending on the map. Players must stay inside these zones to collect points for their team. The team that reaches the required score first takes the zone. The team controlling the most zones by the end wins the match.

Wipeout

A fast-paced 3v3 deathmatch mode where teams compete to be the first to score 10 eliminations. The team that reaches the target first claims victory.

Basket Brawl

The match is played on a basketball court with the left side attachment to one team and the right side to the rivals. A basketball shows up in the center, and players must battle for holding and score by shooting into the enemy’s hoop. Shots made from inside the line count as 2 points while those from outside the line are worth 3 points. The first team to reach 5 points wins the game.

Duels

A one-on-one mode where each player selects three brawlers for battle. When a player wins a round they continue fighting with the same brawler while the opponent switches to their next one. The match ends when a player successfully removes all three of their opponent’s brawlers.

Payload

Two teams compete to push their minecart toward the finish line In this mode,  Staying close to your team’s cart moves it forward while standing near the opponent’s cart slows their progress. The team that reaches the goal first or wraps the most distance before time runs out wins.

Trophy Escape

A 10-player free-for-all mode where the goal is to gather as many prizes as possible. Robots carrying trophies appear, and players must defeat them to collect their rewards. Players can also steal trophies by removing adversaries. Once half the players remain or the timer reaches its final stage escape portals will open, allowing players to flee with their collected trophies.

Ranked Mode

Ranked mode features its own league system separate from the Trophy Road. Instead of earning brawler trophies, players receive rank points to advance through leagues, ranging from Bronze to Legendary.

  • Timed Detonation – Periodically destroys obstacles every five seconds until none remain.
  • Quickfire – Increases attack and reload speed.
  • Big Friend – Boosts the HP of all teammates to match the highest-health brawler on the team.

Special PvE & PvP Game Modes

Occasionally, Brawl Stars introduces limited-time event modes purely for entertainment, which do not affect trophies or ranks. Some of these unique game modes include:

Robo Rumble

A cooperative PvE mode where three players work together to defend a safe from waves of attacking robots. The match consists of nine waves, each with varying types and numbers of enemies. A boss robot appears during the fourth wave. The match lasts two minutes, during which players must prevent the safe from being destroyed.

Winning increases the difficulty, progressing through levels such as Normal, Hard, Expert, Master, and up to Insane 16. Each higher level brings stronger, faster, and more aggressive enemies.

Big Game

A 1v5 PvP battle where one player controls a powerful “Big Brawler” while five others use standard brawlers to take them down. The Big Brawler has massively increased HP, higher attack power, faster movement, and a quicker reload speed. However, it cannot regenerate health naturally, and its healing abilities are significantly weakened.

The match lasts for two minutes. If the Big Brawler survives the full duration, they win. The opposing team wins if they manage to defeat the Big Brawler within the time limit.

Boss Fight

A PvE mode where a team of three players battles a massive boss robot with no time restriction.

The goal is to defeat the boss, but it becomes increasingly challenging with each victory.
